SINGLE LADIES’ DEVOTIONAL

If you told me ten years ago that the day would come when I wouldn’t feel completely in control of my feelings pertaining to singleness, I’d tell you to hold my beer. As a matter of fact, I did just that… all through my twenties. I set myself up to defy every “female” stigma that told me that I’d need a partner and that one day I’d want a man more than I wanted all the other things I wanted.

I wasn’t prepared for that day but it definitely came. At first, it was jarring. To be honest, even once I accepted it, it was still jarring but I (reluctantly) faced it. The contents of Single Ladies’ Bucket List the novel(s) and this devotional are what I learned from this phase of the journey. There’s always more to the journey but I choose to believe, even from here at what feels like just the beginning, that it gets better.

My goal is to share it in hopes that some woman out there can read it and feel less alone, less crazy, and less insecure about all that she’s feeling. I also hope to start a conversation that lasts so long that our pending daughters and granddaughters can benefit from all that we’ve struggled to learn.

If there are any men here reading this, I hope you feel welcome too. The focus of this being single women doesn’t exclude you from learning and even asking questions.

For anyone participating, please chronicle your journey as best you can. The things you cringe at now will be the things you read two years from now and cry about because it actually happened or you actually experienced deliverance from what you struggled with. It’ll confirm your faith in hope, in God, and in your capacity to grow and that, in turn, will encourage you on your next journey.

PRAYER

God, this thing here is a journey that I’m never fully prepared to acknowledge. I’m asking that you prepare my heart for all that you’ll call me to acknowledge, face, and venture to change as a result of the contents of this devotional. Give me support on this journey to want for myself what you desire for me. Bring the right people into my life and allow me to see their roles in my journey. Allow me to be open to them and to move with a caution that isn’t rooted in fear and timidity. I know that a better me is on the other side of this and I want to see the changes that this will inevitably provoke as an adventure rather than something to do reluctantly. Give me peace on this journey and I thank you in advance for all that I’ll uncover with the help of your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

TIP

Write in your journal (or create; write poetry, a short story, etc) the things that you learn about yourself while meditating and reflecting. To take it even further, asked God what it is you can learn from what you read and how you can take a step during the week to walk in a better direction.

REFLECT

What has your introspective style been? Do you track your growth or just try your best to mentally take note when something is new? Do you just wing it and hope for the best? Decide what would help you feel more centered on this journey. Would it help to journal your days thoroughly? Would it be more beneficial to track your growth through bullet points and highlights? However it works best for you, get a notebook to dedicate to the journey and write in it as often as you read these devotionals.
